Would Apple make a gaming console?

Without a doubt Apples mobile operating system iOS has became a major player in the gaming world. It is the most popular way to play games on the go, with this in mind would Apple ever actually make a dedicated gaming device? Maybe a home console?

Back in 1995 Apple along with Bandai released the 'Pippin'. Their goal was to create a cheap computer aimed at playing CD multimedia titles, primarily games, it would also have the ability to function as a network computer.

The device consisted of a 4x CD-ROM drive and a video output that could connect to a standard television.

Unfortunately as the Pippin came to market, the likes of the Playstation and the Sega Saturn were already dominating the space. The Pippin was marketed as a cheap computer, but in reality it was just a games console and with a price tag of $599 it had no hope of standing side by side with Sony's and Sega's offerings.

Fast forward to 2011 and it is now possible to play your iPad games, on your TV whilst using your iPhone as a controller, as long as you own an Apple TV and a free App called Joypad! This is as close as we are probably going to get to an Apple gaming console.

I say that console gaming should be left to those who know it best (Sony and Nintendo). Im not saying a dedicated gaming console from Apple would be a bad thing, it just wouldn't be right.

Do you think Apple should leave the console market alone?
